Jamahal Hill has taken some advice from one of Alex Pereira’s old rivals ahead of his UFC 300 main event clash this coming Saturday.
There isn’t a fighter on the planet more experienced at facing the reigning UFC light heavyweight champion than Israel Adesanya. Across two different combat sports, Adesanya has made the walk to fight Pereira on four separate occasions — finally scoring a victory over him on this exact day one year ago.
On Saturday night, Hill will seek to become just the second man in the UFC to defeat the world class striker and speaking at the UFC Vegas 90 post-fight show in Saturday night after Brendan Allen’s close win over Chris Curtis, Hill said that he had sought some tips from ‘Stylebender’ ahead of his title showdown this weekend.
“Izzy just giving me some advice and insights on what he’s seen and his experience of being in there fighting Alex,” Hill said. “Just basically essentially those things and how to approach and things like that.”
However, Hill, who was forced to relinquish the light heavyweight crown last summer after sustaining an achilles injury outside of competition, says he will remain true to the skills that got him to the dance in the first place.
“Still the same as usual,” he said. “You end the camp, stay loose, get the weight down. Make weight and go and do your thing. Training’s been great. I’m always growing, I’m always learning new things, always adding new things. Always trying new things out. It’s been going great. Martial arts is just one of those journeys, you’ve got to enjoy the process and that’s what I’m doing.”
“The best way I can describe it, it’s like in basketball, it’s like whenever you show up to the All-Star game,” he added of the bumper card to take place in the T-Mobile Arena this Saturday night. “All-Star weekend, everybody wants to show their skills, want to make their name, want to get off like that. This is what this opportunity is.
“There’s a lot of big names on this card. A lot of guys with reputations that bring it. That bring an exciting fight so if you want your names to be among those and with that, it’s your chance to come with it and bring it.”
