Ronda Rousey will make her return to mixed martial arts competition on December 30th when she attempts to regain the women’s bantamweight crown from Amanda Nunes in the main event of UFC 207.
The women’s bantamweight title picture has been in a state of flux since Rousey lost her crown to Holly Holm in Melbourne a year ago. The title has since been held by Holm, Miesha Tate and now Amanda Nunes over the course of the last 12 months and Rousey — who has kept a very low profile since losing the strap — will be looking to re-exert the dominance she once held over the women’s 135-pound division when she steps into the cage next month.
Nunes, though, has looked excellent in recent bouts and particularly in her single round dismantling of the especially durable Miesha Tate at UFC 200 last July. The Brazilian possesses a well-rounded game and is certainly capable of inflicting what would be Rousey’s second career defeat but with all eyes on this main event, will she be able to be just the second person to be able to solve the Rousey riddle?
As for Rousey herself, her long-term participation in the sport is still in question. Earlier this month in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Rousey admitted that her time in the sport is coming to an end.
Either way, Ronda Rousey’s future in mixed martial arts will be a lot clearer come the morning of December 31st.
