The remake of the cult classic ‘Road House’ will land on Amazon Prime on March 21, it has been confirmed.
The film, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor McGregor in his major feature film debut, is a reimagining of the 1989 Patrick Swayze action flick of the same name, and tells the story of Gyllenhaal’s Elwood Dalton, a former UFC fighter who winds up in some trouble after taking a job at a roadhouse bar in the Florida Keys.
McGregor plays Knox, the chief rival to Gyllenhaal’s Dalton in the film, directed by Doug Liman of ‘The Bourne Identity’ fame.
Gyllenhaal filmed sequences for the move at last year’s UFC 285 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, where he participated in a weigh-in to be included in the film and then later ‘fought’ UFC and Strikeforce veteran Jay Hieron inside the cage in between official bouts on the card.
“We had one take,” Hieron told MMA Fighting of the filming last year. “Six minutes and you’re out. You either get it or you don’t. So that process was great, too. Everybody was dialed in from the wardrobe to every piece of the production. Shout out to the whole team that had the ball rolling. It was just incredible to be a part of.”
