Ilia Topuria has announced that he has been medically cleared to return to action following his defeat to Justin Gaethje, while also raising questions about his opponent’s gloves during their fight.
Topuria has been sidelined since his bout with Gaethje at the UFC White House event, where his coaches stopped the contest following the fourth round after he sustained several injuries. Gaethje was awarded the victory after gaining the upper hand as the fight progressed.
“Final medical tests done. I’m back,” said Topuria in a post on X. “To all the clowns who’ve been talking shit and counting me out this whole time, here I am. Now let’s see who’s got the balls.”
“Thanks to everyone for the support. Next time I’ll make sure they check Justin’s gloves so he doesn’t put anything weird on them. See you soon,” Topuria added. Gaethje responded to the suggestion, writing: “94 days and the best you could come up with is a lame excuse. As terrible as your last performance. Do better kid.”
No opponent has yet been confirmed for Topuria’s return, although a rematch with Gaethje remains a possibility following their first meeting. Paddy Pimblett could also emerge as an option after a long-running rivalry between the pair.
Topuria also directed a further message at Gaethje and his manager Ali Abdelaziz following confirmation of his medical clearance. “By the way Justin, f*ck you,” Topuria wrote. “And Ali, f*ck you too.”
