Well, that didn’t last long.
Former two-division UFC champion Jon Jones is officially back in the UFC drug testing pool, just weeks after announcing his retirement from mixed martial arts and relinquishing his heavyweight title to the ex-interim champ Tom Aspinall.
Jones changed strategies amid plans to hold a UFC event on the grounds of the White House in Washington DC as part of Donald Trump’s ‘America 250’ celebrations expected to take place in July of 2026.
Jones had previously stated that he would expect to fight the UFC’s leading heavyweight, who at the moment is unquestionably Aspinall, despite frequently distancing himself from a prospective bout against the Englishman during the final weeks and months of his heavyweight title reign.
Following the termination of a retirement, UFC fighters are expected to provide six months of test samples before being eligible to compete.
Aspinall is scheduled to defend his undisputed heavyweight championship for the first time in the UFC 321 main event in Abu Dhabi opposite for the former two-time title contender Ciryl Gane.
