We have heard a lot of praise for Conor McGregor over the course of these past few years but as for him being a deity, well that’s a new one.
Rapper Fat Joe appeared on Matt Serra and Jim Norton’s UFC Unfiltered podcast where Joe waxed lyrical on his appreciation of a certain Conor McGregor.
“I’m a casual fan with the fights”, Fat Joe said to Serra. “You know, I go for the big one — so I go [for] my man McGregor. It’s like smoking drugs when I see this guy. It’s a fucking movie, bro. McGregor, he’s been the biggest inspiration to me with the mixed martial arts. He’s been my hero. He talked shit to the Brazilian guy and knocked the motherfucker out!”
McGregor’s 13-second victory over José Aldo at UFC 194 cemented McGregor’s status in the sport’s history books — something which he underlined considerably last November by becoming the organisation’s first ever concurrent two-division champion, emulating the same achievement he earned in European promotion Cage Warriors prior to his UFC debut.
Despite all this, it remains McGregor’s concussive knockout of Aldo which impressed Fat Joe the most.
“He beat a guy that [didn’t] lose in ten years and knocked him the fuck out. Thirteen seconds. You’re fighting a guy who’s won every match in ten years. You get up there and talk all kind of obscenities you can think of. He gets in the ring and knocks the motherfucker out in thirteen seconds. I thought he was God!”
