On Saturday, England’s Tom Breese will look to rebound from his first ever career defeat when he faces Oluwale Bamgbose at the UFC’s event in London’s O2 Arena.
Last time out, Breese suffered a split decision loss to Sean Strickland at UFC 199 last summer — a fight after which Breese opted to leave his training base at Tristar, as well as move up a weight class to the UFC’s middleweight division. Breese, who has worked extensively on his BJJ under the tutelage of “grappling encyclopedia” John Danaher, aims to make an impact not just in the UFC but also in the submission grappling scene.
“I think John’s students are the most exciting grapplers in the world right now”, Breese says. “It’s all about the submission and that’s all that really matters, doesn’t it? A guy can beat you on points but you feel truly beat him when you submitted someone. That’s the name of the game; submitting your opponent. That’s what John’s style is based on.”
