Michael Morales has accepted Ian Garry’s proposal for a welterweight bout in Saudi Arabia on November 28, with the pair publicly agreeing to the matchup following an exchange of messages.

Garry is seeking a return to the win column after falling short in his first UFC title challenge, losing a decision to welterweight champion Islam Makhachev at UFC 330. The Irishman has since turned his attention to the unbeaten Morales as he looks to work his way back into title contention.

Morales shared a screenshot of a conversation between the pair in which Garry questioned whether the Ecuadorian was available to fight before the end of the year. “I wanna fight before the end of the year and I’m being told you’re not available,” said Garry, according to the exchange shared by Morales. “You were able to be the back up for the world title fight but not able to take a fight with me now? You’ve also asked to be a back up for the next title fight, but still not available to fight with me?”

Garry continued: “Looks like someone is avoiding me. Talk all that sh*t online then don’t agree to fight? What’s going on here?” Morales rejected the suggestion, responding: “My son, what are you talking about? I fight whenever you want I just want a contract and that’s it I’ll kick your ass.”

Garry then proposed a date and location for the contest. “Saudi, Nov. 28. Let’s do it,” said Garry, according to the exchange, with Morales accepting the proposal. The UFC has yet to confirm that the matchup will take place.

A bout between Garry and Morales could have significant implications at the top of the welterweight division. Carlos Prates is widely considered to be next in line to challenge Makhachev, leaving Garry and the unbeaten Morales among those attempting to establish themselves as future title challengers.
