Gunnar Nelson will make his octagon return against former welterweight title challenger Thiago ‘Pitbull’ Alves, as announced by the promotion on social media Wednesday afternoon.
The event, which will take place on September 28, will mark the UFC’s first Danish event. Nelson’s inclusion on the card is appropriate, given he hails from nearby Iceland. A main event has yet to be confirmed for the card but while it is not yet confirmed, the Nelson vs. Alves bout is a strong contender to take the co-main event slot.

Nelson will be looking to rebound from a split decision defeat to Leon Edwards in London last March. Prior to that the Icelander defeated Alex ‘Cowboy’ Oliveira by submission in December.
Alves, meanwhile, tasted defeat in his last bout as he lost a decision to Laureano Staropoli in Brazil last month. Prior to that, he defeated Max Griffin by split decision.
