Israel Adesanya has had some choice words for Derek Brunson after the American defeated Darren Till by third round submission in the UFC’s event in Las Vegas Saturday night.

Brunson earned his fifth straight win in the UFC’s middleweight division on Saturday night, sinking in a rear-naked choke midway through the third which coaxed a tap from the Englishman and consigned him to his fourth defeat in his last five fights.

Immediately after securing the fight-ending submission, Brunson approached a cageside camera and issued a challenge to the division’s pacesetter Adesanya, a fighter who is the last man to have defeated Brunson in the cage when they met in November 2018.

‘The Last Stylebender’ currently has his hands full as he prepares for a planned rematch former champion Robert Whittaker, but couldn’t resist answering Brunson’s callout with a dig of his own.

“Calm down, boy,” wrote Adesanya. “You still a bum, son.”

As for when any Adesanya vs. Brunson rematch might take place, it would look to be well into next year amid reports that the Whittaker fight is being pushed back in 2022 due ongoing travel restrictions in place due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

If Brunson could be tempted to take on another fight in pursuit of a six-fight win streak which would almost certainly land him the title shot he craves he indicated that a fight with Jared Cannonier, winner of four of his last five, “isn’t completely off the table.”
