King Green’s 50th career bout didn’t quite go as he had planned.

The American veteran travelled all the way to Manchester, England last July only to be choked out by the unbeaten (in the UFC) Liverpudlian, Paddy Pimblett. It was a tough pill to swallow for Green in what was just the third submission loss in half a century of fights and his first since 2009 in what was just his 14th pro bout.

And speaking to the media ahead of his UFC 313 assignment with the 11-1 striking sensation Mauricio Ruffy which opens this weekend’s main card in Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena, Green says that the defeat to Pimblett still grates.

“You ever hear of a blooper?” he asked reporters, including The Mac Life, late Wednesday. “You know what that is, like a blooper reel where a guy slips on a banana peel and falls into a bucket, some stupid sh*t like that? Well, there are some times where I’ve had so many fights where I go, ‘that’s new on my list.'”

The crucial moment in the contest with Pimblett came after Green had appeared to initiate a grappling exchange with Pimblett, which soon led to him being defeated by triangle choke. But it didn’t quite go down as it may have appeared, Green said.

“I think I went to punch him and he kicked my leg and then I slipped,” he explained. “People went, ‘why did you shoot on him?’ I was already down there, I fell into it! So I shot and he capitalised on it.

“A mistake I made. I f*cking just slipped on a banana peel. Sh*t happens like that, you know? I feel like I lost a Super Bowl and it is what it is.

“That sh*t hurt real bad. I had to go all the way over to his pond and deal with all the craziness. I did it all and I put it all on the line. Sometimes you go for the best and sometimes you fall a little short.”
