Once upon a time, it seemed that Israel Adesanya was on a collision course careening straight towards Jon Jones.

The two UFC champions (or former, in Adesanya’s case) had engaged in prolonged squabbling online which at times appeared destined to lead towards a bout in the cage between the two standout fighters. A potential fight appeared closer than ever leading into March 2021, a year after Jones’ previous fight in the UFC, and with Adesanya soon to challenge then-champ Jan Blachowicz for the light heavyweight crown as the Kiwi looked to become the organisation’s latest two-division champion.

That didn’t come to pass, with Blachowicz taking a clear-cut decision win in what was Adesanya’s debut at 205-pounds. As for Jones, as you no doubt know he returned at last weekend’s UFC 285 where he scored a first-round submission win against Ciryl Gane to claim the vacant UFC heavyweight title — and with Adesanya back in the 185-pound class again, and Jones weighing in close to 250-pounds ahead of the Gane fight, a Jones-Adesanya scrap seems farther away than ever.

But that hasn’t stopped the ‘Last Stylebender’ from keeping a watchful eye over his foe and, at least judging by footage released to his near 1-million YouTube following, he was impressed by the relative ease in which Jones scythed through Gane in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
