As we noted earlier, at least one former UFC champion is backing Khalil Rountree to score an upset win over Alex Pereira in this weekend’s UFC 307 main event in Utah — and judging by the below evidence, you can see exactly why.

Muay Thai specialist Rountree has long been considered one of the biggest stand-up threats in a 205-pound division packed to the brim with striking talent and the 34-year-old Californian appears now to be in the middle of his prime, having reeled off five successive wins in the UFC cage (with four of those via TKO).

The fight that went a long way to securing Rountree’s title shot against the dominant champ Pereira this weekend came this past December when he landed an uppercut followed by a swinging left hand, both of which connected flush on the chin of Anthony Smith and sent the veteran cascading backwards to the canvas.

Can he repeat this feat in Utah this weekend and score what would be the biggest UFC title upset in quite some time? Not long now until we find out.
