If you look for a fight with Bobby Green, you’re going to find one.

The Californian, now a veteran in the UFC’s lightweight fold, has fought all comers in his decade-long run with the UFC, scoring impressive wins against the likes of Al Iaquinta, Clay Guida and Josh Thomson. But it wasn’t until this past July where he scored arguably the biggest-named victim on his resume — the former interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson.

Green has parlayed that win into a UFC main event slot, and will take on the 20-1-1 Grant Dawson in this weekend’s UFC main event fight from the organisation’s Apex facility just outside Las Vegas — and he can repeat his win over Ferguson against one of the division’s rising contenders in Dawson, we may well be witnessing a purple patch for the veteran’s career which, who knows, could take him a few rungs up the lightweight ladder towards a top contender fight.

As for Ferguson, he will return to the cage later this year at UFC 296 in Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena where he will attempt to hand the first UFC loss to another developing talent, Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett.
