UFC CEO Dana White is of the opinion that bantamweight contender Merab Dvalishvili should stay off social media.

Georgian fighter Dvalishvili, who is set to battle Sean O’Malley in the main event of the upcoming UFC event in the Las Vegas Sphere in less than a month’s time, has drawn the ire of his boss for posting a picture to social media showing him receiving treatment for a cut underneath his left eyebrow apparently sustained in training.

UFC 306, which takes place on September 14, is branded as Riyadh Season Noche UFC and produced in collaboration with Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority and has become something of a pet project of White’s since it was confirmed in recent months, with White pledging that it will be remembered as the most spectacular (and among the most cost-heavy) events the organisation has ever held.

But after Dvalishvili posted evidence of the cut to his eye, White told the media in Las Vegas on Tuesday, including The Mac Life, that he wishes his fighters would sometimes keep their cards a bit closer to their chests.

“The whole world knows about Merab’s cut, he posted it,” White said. “Our guys are so dumb, it’s next-level unbelievable. All the stuff that I talk about boxing, what I will give boxing, is when something happens in the camp, man, let me tell you what, it does not leak.

“And our guys can’t wait to put it up on social media. It’s a small cut, no big deal, but obviously needed to be posted.”

He added: “And why the f*ck would you want him to know that? It is next-level stupid, some of these guys are so stupid it’ mind-boggling, it’s unbelievable.”
