Chris Weidman’s move to light heavyweight just got derailed in emphatic fashion.

Weidman met Dominick Reyes in the main event of UFC Boston with the intention of getting his career back on track without forcing his body down to 185 pounds. Instead, Reyes found an absolutely emphatic finish, landing a huge straight left that dropped Weidman to the canvas, before a hammer fist ended the night.

After the fight, Reyes paid tribute to Weidman, acknowledging him as a icon of the sport.

“His loss is my gain, that’s how this business is,” Reyes said. “But it’s nothing but love, baby.”

Before the fight, many had suspected a Weidman win would earn him a shot at light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, and Reyes clearly felt his own win should grant him the same opportunity.

“I don’t want any party favours, man, I want that belt,” Reyes said post-fight, directed at Jones.
