Former UFC middleweight kingpin Chris Weidman will look to halt his three fight skid when he faces Kelvin Gastelum in the organisation’s first trip to Long Island on Saturday.

Interestingly for the native of Baldwin, New York, Weidman’s most recent two defeats (to Yoel Romero and Gegard Mousasi) have all taken place in his home state — a trend the Serra-Longo product will be looking to buck this weekend.

Kelvin Gastelum, meanwhile, has looked to be in impressive form since troubles making weight at 170-pounds mandated his move north to the middleweight fold. A hugely impressive performance against Tim Kennedy last December was followed by an equally impressive showing in March against Vitor Belfort, though Gastelum’s first round TKO victory was ruled a no-contest following a positive drug test for marijuana post-fight.

Both fighters clocked in under the middleweight limit for a non-title bout in today’s early weigh-ins at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum today.

In fact, every fighter on the 13-fight card stepped on the scales on weight including co-main event duo Dennis Bermudez and Darren Elkins, as well as fellow main-carders Patrick Cummins and Gian Villante who will meet in a light heavyweight bout. Jimmie Rivera and Thomas Almeida will open the main card in what is expected to be an ultra-competitive bantamweight contest.
