After it was confirmed last last night that Nick Diaz and Robbie Lawler will rematch 17 years after they first met in the Octagon, the UFC 266 card will also feature two world title fights atop the fight card.

The event, which is scheduled for September 25 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, will house Nick Diaz’s first MMA bout since 2015 and confirms his comeback to the sport after whispers first emerged late last year that the Stockton native was seriously considering making his return to mixed martial arts, and that he had conducted test weight cuts to gauge his ability to do so.

But if Diaz vs. Lawler II is a tantalising appetiser, the two main courses look appealing also.

It has been confirmed that Alexander Volkanovski will defend his featherweight title against Brian Ortega on the card after the pair competed against one another as coaches on the latest season of the UFC’s reality series ‘The Ultimate Fighter’.

In addition to that, the co-main event will see Valentina Shevchenko’s latest defence of her women’s flyweight title, this time opposite Lauren Murphy.

Several other fights have also been confirmed for the event, the biggest of which (quite literally) is a heavyweight tussle between Curtis Blaydes and Jairzinho Rozenstruik.
