Joanna Jedrzejczyk is hard at work in her bid to re-establish herself as one of the premiere fighters in women’s mixed martial arts, and apparently that work doesn’t come without breaking a few eggs.

The Polish former UFC women’s strawweight champion has been out of the cage since a fantastic back-and-forth battle with then-champ Zhang Weili in March of last year but is working towards making her return to the UFC cage in the coming months — but those plans may be slightly delayed after Jedrzejczyk posted an image to Instagram showing a large gash to her shin.

Check out the gruesome images below:

“So you wanna be a Fighter?” she wrote in accompaniment to the series of photographs. “SWIPE left at your own risk. The good thing is that I can be back to training tomorrow morning. Big thanks to surgeon Bartek Maminski and @damianosmash for a quick and great hospitality on ER. @kamiliwanczyk we will be back!”

The nature of the injury looks as though it may have required some time away from the training room but incredibly the Pole says that she will be cleared to return to training as soon as Tuesday.

Jedrzejczyk has previously indicated that she is chasing a third fight with reigning champion Rose Namajunas. Jedrzejczyk was defeated by Namajunas twice in succession in late 2017 and 2018. Their initial meeting, which occurred at Madison Square Garden, was the first defeat of Jedrzejczyk’s career and led to a run of four fights against just two wins in her recent career.
