The Leon Edwards versus Khamzat Chimaev fight will no longer take place on December 19.

Unfortunately, Edwards has tested positive for the coronavirus and will be unable to compete on the proposed date, per Ariel Helwani of ESPN. The UFC are going to look to rebook the pair early next year.

It’s a devastating blow for Edwards, who’s 2020 has been completely hindered due to the pandemic, with a title eliminator against Tyron Woodley being scrapped back in March. Since then, Edwards has been waiting for a big name opponent, eventually agreeing to fight the rapidly rising Chimaev, who has demolished everyone in his path since arriving in the promotion in the summer.

The winner was likely going to be in contention to face the winner of Kamaru Usman vs. Gilbert Burns for the welterweight title.
