Well, it had been speculated and discussed, and now it seems to be verging on the official.
According to a report by ESPN, Israel Adesanya will meet UFC icon Anderson Silva in his next fight. They’ll meet as the co-main for Robert Whittaker vs. Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 234 in Australia next February.
It’ll be Silva’s first fight since being suspended by USADA for an anti-doping infraction back in October 2017. He was cleared to compete earlier this month.
For Adesanya, it’ll be a quick turnaround from his exceptional performance over Derek Brunson in New York at UFC 230. Earlier this week, he spoke to Submission Radio and told them his next fight would bring in plenty of attention.
“You guys wait till everything comes to fruition,” he said. “If the other guy says yes – I should say when he says yes – I don’t know, but I feel like when he says yes, it’s gonna be historic, it’s gonna be something that you guys are gonna buzz over it. And then later on, what I have planned after that, that’s gonna be sick as well. So yeah, in due time everything will unfold.”
