Darren Till is out of his fight with Jack Hermansson on December 5.

The popular middleweight has been ruled out of the contest with an injury, per a report from ESPN’s Brett Okamoto. Instead, Hermansson will go on to face Kevin Holland, who looks to win his fifth fight in a calendar year.

It’s an unfortunate turn of events for Till, who looked to bounce back after a razor-thin loss to former champion Robert Whittaker. Till tore his ACL in that fight, but had been cleared to return to action just a few months later after responding well to the injury. What ended up ruling him out this time is currently unknown.

While it’s a fantastic opportunity for Holland, who has been on a tear of activity at the UFC Apex, Hermansson will be left disappointed, for a win over Till could have cemented him as a number one contender to middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, after UFC president Dana White seemed unimpressed with Whittaker’s attitude following a win over Jared Cannonier recently.

“Good luck to both guys, I’ll be back next year,” Till wrote on his social media. “I hope Kevin gets to showcase himself against one of the top guys of the division… he’s as game as they come !”
