Conor McGregor has confirmed that he suffered a torn ACL and meniscus during his UFC 329 bout against Max Holloway, with the former two-division champion targeting a return to competition next summer.

McGregor sustained the injury while throwing a jumping switch kick moments into his first UFC appearance in five years. The bout marked his second meeting with Holloway, whom he defeated by unanimous decision in 2013.

“It was ACL and meniscus. It is the same injury as the first Holloway fight, only this time the opposite leg. Quite shocking,” said McGregor in an update posted on Sunday.

“I returned to competition within nine months to fight Diego Brandao back then. With today’s regenerative medicine advancements and improved training methods it is well within my realm to return by next summer,” he added. “I am walking without a crutch. I done leg extension machine work the other day to no issue. So I can walk without aid, and activate my quad under resistance. All very positive.”

McGregor is now expected to undergo rehabilitation before resuming preparations for another UFC appearance. “On we go, no sad stories. Thank you for the support and well wishes everyone, your health is your wealth,” he said.

The 38-year-old previously required surgery after injuring his other knee against Holloway in 2013 and returned 11 months later against Brandao. His latest injury follows a five-year absence prompted by the broken leg he suffered against Dustin Poirier in 2021.
