Dereck Chisora wants fight fans to know that his recently-stated ambition of taking a mixed martial arts fight is no publicity stunt.

The British heavyweight boxer took to social media this week to post photographs from a recent MMA training session he took part in (while also tagging Bellator MMA), sparking speculation that the 32-9 boxer could soon be downgrading his gloves to the 4oz size.

This is the latest such statement from a fighter apparently seeking a cross-codes fight and comes after the likes of Dillian Whyte suggested the same. While many remains unsure as to the truth of these particular statements, Chisora says that he means every word.

“I’m ready. I said to [manager David Haye] the other day: ‘Can you get me into a cage fight? Because I’m ready to go.’” he told Sky Sports News. “So I think we’re working on that now, an MMA fight. I need it, so my next fight might be MMA or Usyk. … I’m a fighter. I love fighting, I don’t want to look back when I finish, I want to look back and be happy. So do an MMA fight, finish it quick, jog on and fight Usyk, knock him out then go home and celebrate.”

Chisora also stated that he has been training in the famed London Shootfighters gym which has produced fighters such as Michael ‘Venom’ Page, John Hathaway and Lee Murray.

“Every day, serious guys, I enjoy it, it’s painful but I enjoy it so I figured ‘call David’,” he added. “Since we don’t know when we’re boxing, we said let’s do it.”
