Well, that didn’t last long.

Kevin Holland has added his name to the ever-growing list of fighters who have announced that they are stepping away from their sport only to shift into reverse backtrack their way back into the Octagon. Holland, the popular UFC welterweight (and sometimes middleweight) said in the aftermath of his recent bout with Khamzat Chimaev that the time had come for him to hang up his gloves, and that he wouldn’t only return if something “super-duper magical” presented itself.

Well, apparently Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson is sufficiently magical. Speaking on his podcast literally hours after he appeared to confirm his retirement, Holland said that he has agreed to fight Thompson in the main event of the UFCs trip to Orlando on December 3.

You can listen to Holland explain the circumstances of the fight below:

‘Wonderboy’, the former two-time UFC welterweight title challenger will fight for the first time in 2022 against Holland, nearly a year after his last performance — a one-sided decision loss to Belal Muhammad. Prior to that he also dropped a unanimous decision to Gilbert Burns the previous July.

His last win the cage came against Geoff Neal in December 2020.
