When Jessica Andrade threw Rose Namajunas through the air before winning the UFC strawweight champion, you could be forgiven for thinking she’d remain champion for a long, long time.

Yet last Saturday night, Andrade was defeated in just 41 seconds by Chinese contender Weili Zhang, who fought Andrade with the former champion’s own style en route to victory.

While the loss will be a setback for Andrade, the Brazilian is showing no signs of hard feelings over the defeat, having taken to her social media to stand with her head held high.

“I’m not sad no, we did everything right, I was very well trained and focused, this was one of the fights that I was better prepared, but unfortunately Zhang’s hand came in first and I fell, then came a sequence of elbows in which I I went out and tried to recover but soon came a knee, and then it was impossible to continue,” Andrade wrote (translated via Instagram).

“I’m not ashamed because it happens to all fighters one day, already happened to [Jose] Aldo, [Joanna Jedrzejczyk], [Cris] Cyborg with Anderson Silva, Junior Cigano finally my master @gilliardparanae all @prvaletudo team did all the work very well done! We have nothing to say or try to correct, or at least think we could have done better, because we did the best! What would be the victories if we did not feel the bitter defeat?

“A champion is not only made of victory, this was not my first loss and certainly will not be the last, I know how to handle all this, with this avalanche of criticism and absurdity that my countrymen are saying, I just want to leave this message: To the critics, *NOBODY TRAINS AND ENTERS THAT OCTAGON TO LOSE * but the profession I chose has these things right, let’s go back, stronger!

“And we’re not at rock bottom, because it’s not the end of anything, just a fresh start, I have a solid career with 27 fights, I was the first Brazilian to fight in the UFC octagon I’m a veteran in the event and in the world of female MMA , today I became the number 1 in the world, we remain at the top because there is our place, Life that follows! I have the best team, wife and family in the world, I can’t wait to go home and rest, stay a little with friends and family, enjoy life a little, because you who really know us know that these last months are not

“It was easy to live 8 tireless months of hard work, but it was all worth it. Because today I can sleep peacefully because my work was well done. Gratitude to my people, I have already given many joys to this Brazilian nation and I have nothing to be ashamed of.”

Estava esperando um momento de tranquilidade para escrever para vocês, quero agradecer a todos os verdadeiros fãs e amigos por todo apoio! E merece o título. Nós continuamos no topo porque lá é nosso lugar, Vida que segue! Tenho pessoas incríveis aí meu lado, Não vejo a hora de voltar pra casa e descansar, ficar um pouco com amigos e familiares, pois vocês que nos conhecem de verdade sabem que esses últimos meses não foi fácil vivi 8 incansáveis meses de trabalho intenso, mas tudo valeu a pena. hoje durmo tranquila porque o meu trabalho foi bem feito, já dei muitas alegrias a esta nação Brasileira e não tenho do que me envergonhar.
