Weeks after bouts against Tommy Fury and Hasim Rahman Jr fell apart, YouTuber Jake Paul appears to have closed in on an opponent for his latest professional fight amid reports that he is set to take on Octagon icon Anderson Silva in October.

According to KEEMSTAR, the Silva vs. Paul bout will be announced this week in what will be the main event of a Showtime pay-per-view on October 29. This comes after Paul indicated online that his next fight will take place in October.

Paul tweeted earlier this month: “My next opponent will be a pro boxer and of course he will have a winning record just like Timmy [Tommy Fury] and Ramen [Rahman Jr] did before they pulled out. October.”

He later added: “Just got the call. Massive opponent announcement this week. October.”

While not strictly considered a professional boxer, Silva, 47, has had success in the boxing ring in recent outings. He knocked Tito Ortiz out cold in his most recent fight last September — a bout which came several months after he scored an impressive win against former boxing world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

He also competed in an exhibition bout with Bruno Machado earlier this year.

Silva is of course more well-known for his achievements in the cage, and remains the holder of the longest winning streak in UFC history with 16, as well as holding the UFC middleweight championship for a period of 2,457 days.

Paul, meanwhile, is 5-0 in his professional career but has yet to fight a recognised boxer.
