If ever there was a candidate for a ‘changing of the guard’ fight, this was it.

At just 28-years-old, Tom Aspinall — along with the likes of Tai Tuivasa — represents the new breed of UFC heavyweight in a division typically filled with fighters who hit their strides in their mid-thirties or onwards.

The British fighter is a perfect 4-0 in the UFC and will look to extend that impressive start to his Octagon campaign with what would be the biggest win of his career against Russian veteran Alexander Volkov in this weekend’s UFC London headliner, as well as looking to maintain his impressive start which has seen him not got into the seventh minute of any fight since he made his debut for the UFC back in July 2020.

Aspinall has long been thought of as a top prospect at heavyweight and underscored that opinion a little over a year ago in a bout against former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski, a fighter who, at 43, very much represents the old guard of heavyweight fighters.

It is thought that Aspinall will face a sterner test inside the O2 Arena this Saturday night but the manner in which he dispatched Arlovski last February suggests that he is more than ready for the test.
