The FBI said it disrupted an alleged plot to attack Sunday’s UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House, with multiple individuals taken into custody following a multi-state law enforcement operation.

FBI Director Kash Patel announced the development in a post on X, stating that authorities became aware of a potential threat to the event on June 10 involving individuals outside the National Capital Region. The planned UFC event has drawn attention due to its proposed staging at the White House.

“On June 10, FBI and our law enforcement partners became aware of a potential threat to the UFC America 250 event in Washington, D.C. involving individuals outside of the National Capital Region — and thanks to the rapid action of this FBI, our partners, and the Department of Justice in a multi-state operation, multiple individuals are now in custody and allegedly planned attacks were stopped cold,” said Patel, according to his post on X.

Patel’s post shared a Fox News report that alleged the group planned to use drones carrying explosives to strike buildings near the event before targeting crowds with a sniper team as people fled. The report also alleged that other individuals planned to storm the White House gate. NBC News said it had not independently confirmed details of the alleged plot. A senior law enforcement official described the threat as “quite serious,” according to NBC News.

The FBI has not released additional details about the suspects or any potential charges. An FBI spokesperson referred NBC News to Patel’s social media post when asked for comment, while the White House has not yet commented as per the time of writing.
