There are times when rivalries are an enjoyed part of mixed martial arts. The trash talk, the banter and the general bad blood can often be enough to turn interest in a fight into something much more.
For Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier at UFC 257, however, there was simply no need. The two men had respect for each other, showed it throughout their build-up and in the hallways just moments after the end of their main event. Now, in the UFC’s most recent episode of the ‘Thrill and the Agony’, you can see that respect went past the two fighters and all the way to their teams and families.
As seen in the video above, shortly after the main event, Poirier’s wife went into McGregor’s locker room to thank the Irishman for his $500,000 to the Good Fight Foundation.
“I just wanted to say thank you so much,” Poirier said. “Thank you for everything. It’s going to help change a lot of people’s lives.”
“Thank you so much, we’ll get out to Louisiana and we’ll come to the gym and that,” McGregor replied. “Thank you so much. Enjoy your day, [Dustin] fought an amazing fight.”
So… Until next time?
