It didn’t go Dominick Cruz’s way on Saturday night but the former UFC bantamweight champion isn’t shying away from the limelight after just the second KO or TKO defeat of his career against Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera.

Cruz was sat down on several occasions in the (competitive) fight opposite Vera before he was ultimately finished midway through the fourth round by a Vera high kick which faceplanted Cruz on the canvas. It was just the fourth defeat of Cruz’s 28-fight career and likely presents a significant hurdle in front of any championship aspirations he may have for the time being — and in a message to social media, he referenced the defeat and said that he will be back on the UFC commentary desk before long.

“I’m grateful to all of you who came out on Saturday, and for all the love and support here!” Cruz wrote. “The body feels great and I’m thankful for my health. I’ll be seeing you all next up on September 10th at the desk.”

The card Cruz is referencing is UFC 279 which is set to be headlined by a showdown between Khamzat Chimaev and Nate Diaz.

Cruz, meanwhile, will face an extended layoff from his fighting career after it was revealed that he has been medically suspended for a term of six months by the California Athletic Commission, though that term can be reduced if he is cleared by a relevant medical professional.
