Darren Till has an idea for his return, and it’s a doozy.
After earning one more impressive victories of last year (a KO win over Donald Cerrone), the Liverpudlian has been out of the cage after falling ill over the Winter. Now, he’s back in training and ready to step back into the Octagon. And after being linked to nearly every other name at welterweight, Till also has an idea against whom and where his return should be — Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC 224, which takes place in Rio de janeiro, Brazil.
While UFC president Dana White has gone on record repeatedly to say that Dos Anjos is the number one contender to Tyron Woodley’s welterweight title, Till believes the champions recovery period from shoulder surgery will last long enough to make a Dos Anjos contest work.
“Just because of [Dos Anjos] fan base there,” Till said, speaking with MMAFighting. “and I’ve obviously lived there. I’ve got a lot of fans there, and I can speak the language. It would be a good sell in Brazil, if he’s willing to do it.
“I know he’s waiting for Woodley but Woodley doesn’t seem to want to come back.”
Till has been linked to numerous welterweights since defeating Cerrone. While the most frequently named was Stephen Thompson, it seems ‘Wonderboy’ is still recovering from a thumb injury. Recently, it seemed Gunnar Nelson vs. Darren Till was being lined up for the main event spot at the UFC’s upcoming return to Dublin.
Either way, Till believes his next fight will be one of the events of the year, regardless who’s on the other side of the cage.
“Apart from Conor, everyone is anticipating my comeback more than anyone else,” Till said. “It will be big.”
