Daniel Cormier believes starring on a Conor McGregor undercard offers the perfect opportunity for any fighter in the same division to make a name for themselves.
At UFC 257, Michael Chandler enters the UFC to meet Dan Hooker in the co-main event, with the winner likely putting a case forward to be involved in a fight with McGregor in the future. Certainly, that’s what pundit and former champion Daniel Cormier believes.
“For Chandler to be in the co-main event, it puts him in a perfect spot. And Dan Hooker, too,” Cormier said, speaking on his weekly show with Ariel Helwani. “If I’m Dan Hooker and I win, I’m immediately saying something about McGregor. Whoever wins at 155 pounds on that fight card, you say something about McGregor. Because guess what? McGregor doesn’t have the ability to not respond. He will say something back. He’ll say something and elevate you. There’s a level of stardom that comes with fighting on (the same card as) and with this dude that I’ve never seen.”
Certainly, it’s a fight both Chandler and Hooker have expressed an interest in, with both men recently doing interviews to say they’d love to be a part of that match up, and Hooker even referring to it as the “McGregor roulette.”
