It happened in Chicago. Colby Covington was finally justified.

Up until now, the UFC welterweight contender had been disregarded by fans (and media) as nothing much more than a newcomer to trash-talking — someone who was gaining attention in unscrupulous ways.

But, in the co-main event of UFC 225, Covington proved he was far more than the mouth many had labeled him, as he used his undeniable wrestling ability to nullify opponent Rafael Dos Anjos’ offense en-route to a unanimous judges decision victory. The judges scored the bout 49-46, 48-47, 48-47.

As such, he is now the UFC interim welterweight champion, and most likely will face undisputed champion Tyron Woodley later this year.
