An injury has forced Chris Fields to withdraw from his scheduled Bellator 173 main event against former light heavyweight champion Liam McGeary, as reported by SevereMMA.

The nature of Fields’ injury hasn’t yet been disclosed but the Irishman will be replaced in the main event in Belfast this coming Friday by Serbia’s Vladimir Filipovic (8-2), who has won five of his last six and is a fighter with a developing reputation in Eastern Europe.

This marks the latest time that a Chris Fields bout has been affected by an eleventh hour. Fields’ BAMMA 27 bout against Andy Clamp in Dublin last December was pulled hours before the weigh-in after Clamp suffered a late injury in training. Prior to that, Fields’ BAMMA 26 match-up with Paul Craig was also canceled owing to a an injury suffered to his opponent.

This time around however, it appears that Fields has been the unfortunate recipient of the injury which leads to the cancellation of his fight.

McGeary and Filipovic will now meet in the main event of Bellator 173 on Friday 24th February inside the SSE Arena in Belfast. The BAMMA 28 segment of the event will be headlined by Paul Redmond vs. Norman Parke.
