Amazon are getting into the MMA game.

The online juggernaut has acquired rights to begin selling UFC pay-per-views on their online streaming service, Amazon Prime. John Ourand from Sports Business Daily first reported the news. The first available event will be this Saturday’s UFC 222, which is headlined by Cris Cyborg vs. Yana Kunitskaya. It’ll cost $64.99, and is available for purchase now.

It’s the first live pay-per-view sporting event Amazon has hosted. You do not have to be an Amazon Prime customer to purchase the event.

While it’s an interesting deal in itself (albeit the terms are unknown as of yet), there could be connotations to the new agreement. The UFC are currently negotiating a new TV deal — something that could well be an important moment in the company’s history — and there have been suggestions the MMA promotion could look to online streaming services as an outlet.
