The opponent for Irish Olympic champion boxer Katie Taylor’s third professional bout has been revealed.
Taylor is a perfect 2-0 following her debut in the professional ranks late last year and it was confirmed today that her third test inside the ring will come in the shape of Italy’s Monica Gentili who holds a 6-6 record. The two will meet on the undercard of this weekend’s Tony Bellew vs. David Haye heavyweight bout in London’s O2 Arena. Gentili comes into the bout on short notice after Taylor initial opponent was forced to withdraw due to illness.
Despite her sparse professional ranks Taylor’s performances, coupled with her outstanding amateur record, are expected to earn the Bray woman a world title shot before 2017 reaches its conclusion.

Taylor’s brief professional career has gone as expected thus far. Her debut Taylor breezed past Poland’s Korina Kopinska in November and beat Brazil’s Viviane Obenauf in a 60-53 decision the following month. It’s likely that the result this weekend for the boxer promoter Eddie Hearn has dubbed as the ‘most exciting female fighter on the planet’ will bring that seemingly inevitable title shot one step closer.
