One year ago today, the most anticipated featherweight bout of all time took place in Las Vegas. 13 seconds later, it was all over.
Conor McGregor’s one-punch victory over the man who had ruled the featherweight division for the best part of decade was the most decisive title win in the history of the sport. The year-long build up, the world tours, the belt-grab in Dublin — all of those moments fed into the atmosphere inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena that night.
And with one swing of his left hand, McGregor won the UFC Featherweight title and set into motion a series of events which culminated in the Irishman becoming the first simultaneous two-division champion in UFC history — an accomplishment none of McGregor’s peers can claim.
