After less than five years in the UFC, Conor McGregor has become one of the highest paid athletes in professional sports.

At the age of 29, the Irishman has been revealed as number 4 on the Forbes list for sporting figures last year, featured alongside names like Floyd Mayweather, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. The achievement comes on the back of his mega-fight with Mayweather in August of last year, the most successful sporting event of all time.

Today, McGregor took to his social media to address the ranking, and revealed he’d previously planned on accepting a contest in May, which would have taken him to the second spot on the coveted list.
