Francis Ngannou is going to take some time and regroup.

The heavyweight contender has been fairly quiet since losing one of the most anticipated heavyweight fights in UFC last Saturday night in Boston. Ngannou met Miocic in the main event of UFC 220, and while he showed bravery and grit, he was mostly outclassed by the champion over the course of five rounds.

Now, it appears the Cameroonian is going to return home, and take some time before he returns to action. Taking to his social media, Ngannou revealed he was going to take a break from the sport before returning.

“I’m taking some time off which will benefit my personal life by going back home to see family and friends then I’ll be back to set things up,” Ngannou wrote.

It’s a well earned break. Ngannou’s rise to title contention has been nothing short of meteoric, with the African debuting in the UFC in December of 2015, and in just over two years has already had seven contests. He’s also been in back to back training camps, facing Overeem before a quick turnaround had him booked in the Miocic bout.

His loss to Miocic was his first under the UFC banner, and the second of his career. He now has a record of 11-2.
