It is not often that we get to see two undefeated, world heavyweight champion boxers facing each other near(ish) to the prime of their careers but when Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury tangle on December 1 that is, hopefully at least, what we should get.
Wilder, the ferocious power puncher who has knocked out 39 of his 40 opponents, is considered the favourite ahead of the bout. Fury, though, is the wild card. Unbeaten throughout his professional career, as well as being the linear heavyweight champion, has fought just twice since dethroning Wladimir Klitschko in late 2015 and now, with two ‘tune up’ fights under his belt he will be tasked with solving a pugilistic puzzle which has flummoxed his peers.
And, as for Wilder at least, he sees it as business as usual.
“I’m feeling wonderful. My mindset and body have changed,” the fighter known as the ‘Bronze Bomber’ said via the BBC.
Wilder beat the previously undefeated Luis Ortiz earlier this year to re-establish his title credentials. Next up for the winner is likely boxing’s biggest prize, Anthony Joshua. In time though, says Wilder.
“I don’t want anyone to ask me about Anthony Joshua. He was a coward and that’s that.
“I don’t have a message to Anthony Joshua, it’s all about Tyson Fury. I feel like a killer. I’m transformed into a killer.”
