Derek Chisora is adamant he’ll enter the world of mixed martial arts with Bellator MMA later this year or early next.

The British heavyweight boxer has long been toying with a move into the wider world of combat sports, and has been in talks with Bellator for some time. While he’s set to meet Oleksandr Usyk in a boxing bout, Chisora maintains he wants to get into a cage before he calls time on a storied career.

While we’ve heard boxers — Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte — all say they’re open to the idea of a MMA bout, it seems Chisora wants to be the first big name to actually make the jump.

“With Bellator and my fight with Usyk, a hundred percent it’s happening, it’s gonna happen,” Chisora told iFLTV. “I’m definitely going into Bellator, this year. I don’t even know who’s in Bellator, I can’t really say much.

“I’m not going to let it fizz-out, I’m on it a hundred percent.”

To make his point, Chisora has posted footage of his training to his social media, in which he appears to be working his grappling — no doubt his major point of weakness should a contest ever take place.
