After several false starts in the past, it appears an accord has been found for the much-hyped heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
The two best UK heavyweights of their generation have been linked to a fight with one another for several years now but various issues have complicated talks when a deal seemed close both in 2020 and 2021. It had appeared that Tyson Fury’s ‘retirement’ had once and for all scuppered the potential of the bout, but the Briton announced recently on social media that he was sending a proposal to Joshua for a fight later this year which would see a 60/40 revenue split in Fury’s favour.
As of Tuesday morning, it appears that the terms have been accepted.

“258 and @MatchroomBoxing can confirm, on behalf of @anthonyjoshua, that we accepted all terms presented to us by Fury’s team for a fight Dec 3rd last Friday. Due to the Queen’s passing, it was agreed to halt all communication. We are awaiting a response,” read a message posted by Joshua’s management group on Tuesday morning.
Fury’s UK promoter Frank Warren quickly replied: “Contract will be with you very soon.”
Fury had previously mentioned that his team had pre-booked the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on December 3rd.
The two fighters were also close to fighting each other last year before a US judge ruled that Deontay Wilder was contractually guaranteed a third fight with Fury. The Briton knocked Wilder out in the 11th round of their Las Vegas fight in October.
He has since fought once more, defeating Dillian Whyte by seventh round KO.
Joshua, meanwhile, has lost three of his last five fights — and just last month suffered second successive defeat to the unbeaten Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk.
