Leon Edwards just can’t seem to get what he wants these days.

Let’s look at the list in no particular order: he was denied a high profile UFC London main event because of the Covid-19 pandemic. He was denied a fight with Khamzat Chimaev (twice), again because of Covid. He was denied a short-notice shot at Kamaru Usman, which went to Gilbert Burns instead. And most recently, he was denied what would have been an intense grudge match with rival Jorge Masvidal, after ‘Gamebred’ withdrew through injury.

The last thing Edwards called for, after Masvidal’s pullout, was a rematch against the champ, Kamaru Usman — the last man to defeat Edwards, and the other fighter in the 170-pound division with an extended streak of unbeaten fights.

But according to Dana White, this doesn’t look like happening just yet.

Per UK reporter Chisanga Malata, Dana White has something cooking for Edwards, but it won’t be a fight with Usman who, White says, won’t be in action until a niggling hand injury has healed.

This might well be a point of contention for Edwards, who has indicated that he won’t accept a fight with anyone other than Usman — but it seems like the Birmingham man has been penalised somewhat for his recent inactivity, which has been absolutely no fault of his own.

Edwards was last seen in the cage in June where he scored a unanimous decision win against Nate Diaz. He is now undefeated in ten straight contests on a run which has also seen him defeat Rafael Dos Anjos, Gunnar Nelson and Donald Cerrone.
