Patchy Mix had some trouble on the scales ahead of his highly-anticipated showdown with James Gallagher in the Bellator 270 co-main event on Friday evening.

The 14-1 Mix weighed in heavy at 137.8 pounds, some 1.8 pounds over the bantamweight non-title limit on the eve of the fight. Gallagher, by contrast, weighed in at a clean 136-pounds even.

The American fighter missing weight adds another layer of drama to the match-up between two of the best regarded grapplers in the bantamweight fold, and comes after Mix was highly critical of Gallagher during fight week, even prompting a member of the Bellator PR team to contact Ariel Helwani live on Wednesday’s edition of The MMA Hour via MMA Fighting to counter Mix’s claims of Gallagher’s supposed unprofessionalism.

And reacting to the news of Mix missing weight for one of the most high profile fights of his career, Gallagher suggested that it was Mix who was the unprofessional one on the scales.

“He’s already beat. His mind his weak,” wrote Gallagher on Twitter.

Elsewhere on the main card, main eventers Peter Queally and Patricky Freire both successfully made weight ahead of their lightweight title fight as did featherweights Pedro Carvalho and Daniel Weichel.

Ilias Bulaid and Georges Sasu also successfully made weight ahead of their featherweight fight which has been drafted into the main card slot after the Fabian Edwards’ clash with Roberto Fonseca was removed from the card due to paperwork issues.
