Jon Jones’ latest act of contrition has seen him pledge to give up alcohol for good after his most recent late night arrest, this time on several charges in Las Vegas which took place just hours after the former UFC light heavyweight champion was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame for his UFC 165 opposite Alexander Gustafsson.
Jones was charged with misdemeanor battery domestic violence and felony tampering with a vehicle after an alleged incident involved his fiancee as well as a confrontation with local police during which he is said to have head-butted a police car.
And late on Tuesday Jones took to social media to address the incident for the firs time, saying that he is giving up alcohol for good after his latest legal woes.
Jon Jones posted an Instagram story of him doing a bench press this evening. On the story were several phrases, including: “I have way too much trauma to consume alcohol, my brain simply can’t handle it anymore. I will leave alcohol in my past forever.” pic.twitter.com/lnvxWjls3U

The Instagram post showed an image of Jones lifting weights, along with several statements overlaid: “I have way too much trauma to consume alcohol, my brain simply can’t handle it anymore. I will leave alcohol in my past forever. Turn this nightmare into the best thing to ever happen in my life”
“Now is the time to work harder than ever. What the devil means for bad, God means for good. Get right back on my horse.”
Jones is due for a court date in just under a month’s time during which time it will become clearer what, if any, legal punishment Jones will face.
The former longtime 205-pounds champion has been involved in several outside-of-the-cage transgressions throughout his career. Last year, he was arrested for DWI and the negligent use of a firearm while in 2015 he was stripped of his UFC championship after being involved in a hit and run in which a pregnant lady’s arm was broken.
