The world’s undisputed lightweight champion, Katie Taylor, has cemented her position as being the biggest global name in women’s boxing after being awarded the Ring Magazine Female Fighter of the Year award for the second consecutive year.
Taylor becomes the first double-winner of the award in the female category’s brief history in the awards generally considered by most to be the most prestigious honours handed out in the sport. By comparison, the last male fighter to win the award back-t0-back was Manny Pacquiao in 2008-09.
In addition to Pacquiao, Taylor joins esteemed company alongside the likes of Joe Louis, Joe Frazier, Muhammad Ali and Evander Holyfield as being back-to-back winners.

Taylor fought twice in 2020, beating gritty Belgian Delphine Persoon in their highly-anticipated rematch in August and followed that win up in November when she eased past Spain’s Miriam Gutierrez last month — results which propelled her past Claressa Shields to the summit of Ring Magazine’s pound-for-pound rankings.
