Jorge Masvidal is one of the biggest stars on the UFC roster.

The welterweight may have come up short against 170-pound champion Kamaru Usman on Saturday night, but if a report from The Athletic is to be believed, he’ll have been incredibly well compensated while doing so.

Per Mike Coppinger, the UFC earned 1.3 million pay-per-view buys for Usman vs. Masvidal, one of the largest buy rates in MMA history and certainly one of the most successful for an event not including Conor McGregor.

Following the news, Masvidal took to his social media to offer a heartfelt thank you to his fans who purchased the event, and even acknowledged those who wanted to see his star diminished.

“The overwhelming amount of support I have received before, during, and after this journey has been humbling. Still got a lot of goals to meet. All of you that tuned in to see me win, thank you. Those that tuned in to see me lose, thank you,” Masvidal said. “I want to thank God for allowing me to be able to provide for my family during a time of crisis and the best is yet to come.”

The numbers completely justify Masvidal’s pre-fight stance, where he told the UFC he would not compete unless being compensated more for his time. He eventually came to a deal with the promotion after Gilbert Burns was forced out after testing positive for the coronavirus.
