A featherweight title rematch between current champion Alexander Volkanovski and the man he took the title from, Max Holloway, is speculated to headline the UFC’s return to Australia.
The event, which is scheduled to take place on June 6 at the Perth Arena, with Australia’s Volkanovski once again set to paired with Holloway, per a report by the Daily Telegraph. It would be a rematch of their UFC 245 clash in December which was won by Volkanovski by unanimous decision, handing the Hawaiian his first defeat at 145-pounds since a 2013 loss to Conor McGregor — ending a streak of 14 consecutive wins in the division.
Volkanovski, meanwhile, has won 18 consecutive fights in the featherweight division, including 8 straight in the UFC since his debut in November 2016.
A rematch between the two best featherweights in the world had seemed inevitable given Holloway’s impressive run as the division’s titleholder.
The UFC 251 card is also expected to host a title bout between Valentina Shevchenko and Scotland’s Joanne Calderwood.
