Corey Anderson might have had a fantastic showing at UFC 244, but according to UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, it wasn’t enough to get himself at the top of the list of contenders.
Anderson and Dominick Reyes have emerged as contenders to Jones’ 205 pound title with big wins recently, after Anderson knocked out Johnny Walker last Saturday, and Reyes finished Chris Weidman in a similar fashion at UFC Boston last month.
According to Jones, if he’s getting the final say, he’s decided it’s Reyes who deserves the nod based on performances of late. The champion took to his social media on Wednesday night and said he’d been eyeing footage of both contenders, and felt Reyes would provide more of a challenge — and that’s why he’d be the one Jones faces next.
“Just finished a coaches meeting studying Dominick and [Corey’s] careers,” Jones wrote. “Established Dominicks definitely the more dangerous fighter. Beating his ass next.”

While the news will certainly give Reyes something to smile about, it will likely infuriate Anderson, who’s been exceptionally vocal about his displeasure with not being granted a title shot against Jones despite a good run in the division.
